What is insulating glass?

Insulating glass was invented by Americans in 1865. It is a new type of building material with good heat insulation, sound insulation, beautiful and practical, and can reduce the weight of buildings. What is laminated glass?

Laminated glass is also called laminated glass. It is two or more pieces of float glass with a strong PVB (vinyl butyrate) film sandwiched between them. After being combined by a hot press to exhaust the air in the middle as much as possible, it is then placed in a high-pressure steam kettle to use high temperature and high pressure to dissolve the remaining small amount of air into the film. So, which one should I choose, laminated glass or insulating glass?
First of all, laminated glass and insulating glass both have the effect of sound insulation and heat insulation to a certain extent. However, laminated glass has excellent earthquake resistance and explosion-proof performance, while insulating glass has better heat insulation and thermal insulation.

In terms of sound insulation, the two are different. Laminated glass has good earthquake resistance, so when the wind is strong, the possibility of its own vibration causing noise is small, especially for medium and low frequencies. Insulating glass, it is easy to resonate.
But when it comes to isolating external noise, insulating glass is still slightly better. Therefore, the glass to be selected is different depending on the place.

1. Heat insulation
The thermal conductivity of the sealed air layer in the hollow of the glass is much lower than that of the conventional one. Therefore, compared with the single-piece glass, the heat insulation performance of the hollow glass can be doubled: in summer, the hollow glass can block 70% of the solar radiation energy, avoid the indoor temperature rising too fast, and reduce the energy consumption of air conditioning; in winter, the hollow glass can well block the loss of indoor heat and reduce the heat loss rate by 40%.

2. Safety protection
The glass products are tempered at 695 degrees to ensure that the glass surface is heated evenly; the temperature difference that can be tolerated is 3 times that of ordinary glass, and the impact strength is 5 times that of ordinary glass. When the hollow tempered glass is damaged, it can turn into bean-shaped (obtuse) particles, which is not easy to hurt people, and the safety experience of doors and windows is more guaranteed.

3. Sound insulation and noise reduction
The hollow layer is filled with inert gas-argon. After filling with argon, the sound insulation and noise reduction effect of doors and windows can reach 60%. At the same time, because the thermal conductivity of dry inert gas is low, the thermal insulation performance of the hollow argon filling layer is also much higher than that of ordinary doors and windows.
If it is for ordinary household use, insulating glass is the most widely used choice. If you live in a high-rise building, the wind is strong, and the outside noise is relatively small, laminated glass is also a good choice.
The most direct manifestation of the two types of glass is the use in the sun room. Generally, the top of the sun room uses laminated double-layer tempered glass. The facade glass of the sun room uses insulating glass.

Because if you encounter falling objects from high altitude, laminated glass is relatively safe and not easy to completely shatter. The facade glass uses insulating glass to better achieve heat insulation and keep the sun room warm in winter and cool in summer. Therefore, it cannot be said which is better, double-layer laminated glass or double-layer insulating glass. It can only be said that there is a greater demand in which aspect.
